Trailblazer Week and an exciting workshop
Trailblazer Week and learning all about Malawi, and how we can help children who live in poor conditions, has been thoroughly enjoyed by adults and children alike. Finding out about the lives of young children in rural villages has made our fortunate children consider how lucky they are for all they have. They have seen, and learnt about, children who walk barefoot to school, only have one meal a day, need to pump water from a borehole to get water to drink, wash and cook with. They have used double bubble maps to compare their lives to the lives of these amazing children and included interesting observations.
Some of the similarities they noticed were:
- we are taught by teachers
- play football and games
- somewhere to live
- like to dance
- grow food
- loved by our families
- drink water
Some of the differences they reported were things like:
- poor children in rural Malawi only have one meal a day (given at school)
- children in Malawi have to collect water from a borehole/river
- children in Malawi sleep on the cold, hard floor with the whole family
- children in Malawi make toys themselves like footballs out of plastic bags and rope
- children in the U.K just turn on a tap for drinking water and to bath etc
- children in the U.K have lots of resources, teachers and books to help learn
- children in the U.K sleep in warm beds and often have their own rooms
As global citizens, will be writing letters to our neighbours and families and asking them to raise money for the poor children in the M'lumbwira School in Malawi.
We also had a free workshop provided by Perform for Schools on the theme of kindness. Please ask your children about this!
Our phonics lessons are going full steam ahead and our children are doing a great job with all the different codes! Go team Oak and Larch!
