Autumn 2
Week 1:
This half term our topic is ‘The Rotten Romans.’ During our history lesson this week, we learnt about primary and secondary sources as the two ways we can learn about events in history. We also spent some time looking at primary sources from the Roman times to understand what life was like. The children are super excited to learn all about the Romans!
Week 2:
As musicians over this half term, we will be composing a Roman-style melody. This week, we learnt what a melody is and created our own ABCDE melody in groups.
Week 3:
Year 3 went on an educational visit to Frameless this week! As artists, we saw some famous paintings, learnt some white hat facts about different artists and even used our feet to paint some ourselves! We loved it!
Week 4:
As artists, we designed a mosaic tile to show a pattern. These have been inspired by our Romans topic as we have learnt about the use of mosaics as decoration in the Roman times. As historians, we have been learning about technological advances from the Roman times and created our own aqueducts to develop our understanding of how they transported water.
Week 5:
As physicists, we completed an investigation to understand how shadows are formed. We shone a light onto opaque, translucent and transparent objects to see which types of objects create shadows. As mathematicians, we have continued to develop mental strategies of addition and subtraction up to 999.
Week 6:
As artists, we visited the art room this week to create our mosaic tiles to show pattern. We used the plans we created last week to help us position our mosaics and ensure a pattern is being used. Another highlight of this week was the incredible home learning the Year 3 children created, showing their knowledge and understanding of our topic ‘The Rotten Romans.’
