Spring 2 - Natural Disasters

Spring 2 - Week 6:

This week has seen the end of our intensive swimming sessions. We have loved them! So many of the Year 4 children arrived having not really been in a pool and are leaving being able to swim in at least one stroke confidently! We had to use our habits of mind and preserver and bounce back at times, but it was all worth it!

Spring 2 - Week 5:

This week in art, using Hokusai's painting 'The Great Wave' as inspiration, we continued to explore and experiment with water colour techniques to then creat our own piece. In geography, we considered the positives and negatives of living by a volcano before we were given the role of a specific villager (with different roles and professions) to then debate as a team whether we should stay or leave 'Volcano Village' as seismic activity had been recorded.....

Spring 2 - Week 4:

This week was lots more fun and hard work. In music, we continued to create our own 'disaster songs', composing lyrics, rhythms and melodies. It was a lot of fun. We also continued to build upon our footballing skills, learning how to successfully pass and tackle our opponents.

Spring 2 - Week 3:

We had such an amazing week celebrating 'World Book Day' on Monday where we came to school dressed as our favourite book characters. We also participated in 'National Science Week' and loved our experiment testing the different melting points of substances. We chose to explore the melting points of ice, chocolate and butter and applied our scientific knowledge to pose a question and create and conduct a fair test.

Spring 2 - Week 2:

This week we had the best time visiting the Natural History Museum in London. We got to learn about earthquakes - how they occur and how seismic activity is recorded. We then investigated two different types of volcano and the differences in their eruptions before saving the people of 'Volcano Town' with our new knowledge.

Spring 2 - Week 1:

This week we used the short film 'Catch A Lot' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OAji8DILjFs as inspiration to help us gather vocabulary to write about a storm. We created a text map and have been using this to assist when writing our plot points. We have also started learning and developing our football skills in PE.
