Spring 1 - Week 6
This half-term we have looked at Fairy Tales and the children have absolutely loved experiencing so many different stories, having them read by various members of SLT and retelling them in their play. This week has been no exception to the fun; with baking, comparing and acting out a classic fairy tale, The Gingerbread Man! As this week is our final on Fairy Tales, we celebrated the end of the topic by making our very own gingerbread people, which the children also decorated and ate! We've loved our fairy tale topic and can't wait to start on our new topic the children have chosen after half term!
Spring 1 - Week 5
As we continue with our learning about fairy tales, we have moved onto the story Hansel & Gretel. The children loved exploring the witches' sweetie cottage covered with goodies they'd decorated themselves, and role playing the characters from our story. We were lucky enough to enjoy having Lisa Fancis visit us and retell the story Hansel & Gretel which has the children captivated! We also had a visit from Reflect, with Captain Carrot and Captain Fitness, who taught us about healthy living through movement and songs. The children also used their learning on Hansel & Gretel to inspire some amazing map work. They've also used the Beebots to move around the woodland setting.
Spring 1 - Week 4
This week we have been exploring the fairy tale Little Red Riding Hood! SLT member Mrs Reidy read us the story in the Copse Nursery, and we acted out the whole story with some hcildren as the captivated audience and others as the actors! The children have been demonstrating their understanding of the story by sequencing the main plot points with an adult and by creating their very own independent Big Bad Wolf wanted posters! We also continued our PE sessions this week and linked like a spider to our Phonics learning. Still thinking about rhyme, this week the children physically moved to the odd one out using different ways to travel across the room!
Spring 1 - Week 3
This week, we have continued our fairy tale theme by learning about Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We went on an adventure to our Woodland Lodge where SLT member, Tanja, joined us to share our story. The children loved the animated retelling and having a look at all of our fairy tale props. The classroom has also taken on a Goldilocks theme with porridge oats in the sand tray, masks for retelling the story and three different sized bowls and chairs in our home corner! The children have also been honing their fine motor skills with weekly dough gym sessions and, more recently, our Big Art sessions. You can see our latest Big Art creations on the display board in the classroom!
Spring 1 - Week 2
This week, we have launched our Fairy Tales topic with the story The Three Billy Goats Gruff. We have retold the story, listened to alternative versions to compare them, acted out the story in our independent play and, as an adult-led task, created our very own bridges! We have learnt about what different bridges there are and what they can be used for and many of the children looked at the resources that they needed to create the bridge they wanted. Such wonderful green hat thinking this week!
