Spring Term 1
Week 6
This week we have moved onto division within our maths lessons and have used concrete resources to share items into equal groups. As scientists, we have learnt about food chains and identified food chains within different habitats. We evaluated our completed collages and gave peer feedback to one another. Both teams enjoyed sharing their sea creature research with the rest of the class, we were so impressed with the quality of work produced!
Week 5
We worked collaboratively in maths to solve halving and doubling problems linked to the two times tables. As artists, we completed our collages by cutting sea creatures in the style of Henri Matisse. On Thursday we took part in an online storytelling workshop with Joseph Coelho to celebrate National Storytelling Week. This week is also Children's Mental Health Week. Within our PSHE lesson, we considered how different parts of our personality work together to make us who we are.
Week 4
Within our English lessons, we have written list poems in the style of Kit Wright describing what we would put in our bucket using expanded noun phrases. Later on in the week, we performed our poems considering how we can use our voice's tone, tempo and volume to entertain. As artists, we began our under the sea themed collages by using coloured paper, tissue paper and magazines to create the background of our final piece. We also took part in the Great British Bird watch and worked interdependently to record the birds we could see on our school grounds.
Week 3
This week, as artists, we created our own versions of Henri Matisse's 'the Snail' using collage. As mathematicians, we have been investigating the relationship between multiples of five and tens. Within our English lessons, we have written shape poems including alliteration and similes. As scientists, we classified animals by diet using the vocabulary of herbivore, carnivore and omnivore.
Week 2
This week we visited the IMAX cinema to watch a special 3D screening of Blue Planet. We also enjoyed a themed lunch to begin the celebrations for Chinese New Year. As artists, we researched the work of Henri Matisse and created our own Year 2 galleries to showcase his work and consider how different pieces made us feel.
Week 1
This week, as geographers, we have been learning outside by identifying and naming the 7 continents using maps, globes and atlases. As mathematicians, we have been using different representations to consolidate our knowledge of the two times tables. During our English lessons, we have been using iPads to research the impact of plastic pollution and will be using these facts to write a persuasive letter over the next few weeks.
