Autumn 2- Week 3: Aliens!
This week it has been the last week of our space topic 'To Infinity and Beyond'. The focus for the week was Aliens. We used our Green Hat thinking to imagine what we think Aliens look like. We focused on the text 'Aliens Love Underpants' and 'Alien Tea on Planet Zum Zee' books to inspire our imaginative thinking.
With these texts as inspiration, we then applied our phonics skills to writing words and as writers completed lists of items we would take to an alien tea party. We all decided we would love to bring sandwiches to an alien party! This then led to us making sandwiches, and here we learnt how to use our physical skills to manipulate tools in order to create cucumber sandwiches for our Finale event... An 'Aien Loves Underpants Tea Party'!
As communicators, we thought about the Alien language and were introduced to some Alien words in Phonics. We found these words extremely easy to read as we applied our phonics knowledge of Phoneme to grapheme recall, blending and segmenting to read these unfamiliar words.
We then used a Double Bubbble map to compare an Alien body to a Human Body and became scientists, exploring and naming the different parts of our bodies and then labelling them. We had great fun drawing around each other and writing the labels! We were then able to identify similarities and differences between an Alien, or what we imagined Aliens to look like, to Human bodies.
To finish our week, we could not go to an 'Alien Loves Underpants Tea Party', without some underpants to wear! So we recapped on our knowledge of AB, AAB, ABB, and ABC patterns and created our own patterns on underpants to wear to the party! We even made some for all the adults to wear too. We have thoroughly enjoyed our topic of space and cannot wait to start our new topic next week!
