Year Group 6
Welcome to Year 6
Please click on the tab, 'Curriculum Information' on the right-hand side drop-down menu to access the Year 2 Curriculum Information Newsletters detailing what we are learning each half-term.
More information about our learning for each topic can be found in our Knowledge Organisers sections for each subject. Please click on the current term's tab on the right-hand side of this page to access these.
PE
Year 6 PE days are Monday and Thursday.
Children should also bring a pair of plimsolls or indoor trainers for use in the gym into school in a PE bag. These will be kept in school for the whole term, unless the shoes become too small, and we will send them home earlier.
Children will need to wear their full Hillcross PE Kit to school on these days and bring their school shoes (and a change of socks in case they get muddy) with them in a carrier bag. This is so that if they get muddy they can change into their school shoes without walking mud throughout the school. Please be mindful of the weather and choose the most appropriate PE kit (tracksuit bottoms in winter and shorts in summer). Stud earrings and plain watches, if worn, must be removed for all PE lessons and sports activities.
Children wear their house colour t-shirt for all PE lessons. Round neck coloured t-shirts can be bought from the school uniform shop or can be sourced elsewhere. When purchasing your child’s t-shirt, they should be round necked, completely plain and as close as possible to the shade of colour shown on the school uniform page.
Water Bottles & Snacks
Children must bring a water bottle in their house colour to school to ensure they keep hydrated throughout the day. Families can either source their own water bottle in their child’s house colour, or purchase one from the school. Water bottles must be plain, transparent, in your child's house colour and clearly labelled with your child’s name.
Hillcross water bottles (which are sustainably sourced) are available to purchase at our pre-loved uniform sales. Dates of upcoming uniform sales can be found in the weekly bulletin.
Children have the option of bringing a piece of fruit or vegetable to eat as a snack at playtime. Children must bring these to school in either a reusable container or bag to minimise the risk of cross contamination.
Pencil Cases & Personal Belongings
Children are not to bring their own belongings, including pencil cases into school from home - all equipment your child requires for their learning and well being will be provided by the school.
Home Learning
This will be set on Google Classroom on a Friday and must be 'turned in' on a Wednesday. Please click the tab on the right-hand side of this page, refer to our Home Learning Policy and/or Google Classroom for more information.
Mobile Phones
Only children in Year 5 or 6, who walk to and from school on their own, may bring in a mobile phone. Once on the school premises, they must be turned off and be handed in to the class teacher who will keep them locked away until the end of the day.
Start & End of the School Day
Year 6 children enter school via the door by the quiet area on the playground. Registers close at 8.45am but please bring your child as close to 8.30am as possible so they can benefit from targeted early morning work.
Year 6 children will be dismissed from the same door as arrival at 3pm.
If a different adult is collecting your child, please inform the school by emailing info@hillcross.merton.co.uk with as much notice as possible. They will need to know your parent password.
Year 6 parents considering allowing their children to walk home from school unaccompanied, must complete a form and permission for this must be granted by the Headteacher. Please click here to complete the online form /virtual-office/forms/permission-to-walk-home-year-5-and-6),
